April - Coaches Corner Webinar Summary

Topic: Steal our Roll Out Action Plan for 4 Stakeholder Groups

Thank you to everyone who joined us April 24th for our monthly Coaches’ Corner discussion. We wrapped up our conversations with a focus on one of the most exciting components of PBIS implementation – Roll Outs!

Here is just a tiny summary of the great conversation and discussion we had…

Are We Ready?

To best prepare for a Roll Out, we learned it is necessary to assess if all of your PBIS components are in place:

  • Creating Expectations and Lesson Plans for teaching and reinforcement – to both staff and students – are crucial for success.

  • Teaming, ownership, and buy-in are all fundamental in a successful roll out.

  • Holding student accountable to our expectations using Behavior Flowcharts, lesson plans, and staff case studies are also key.

We discussed the importance of including ALL staff (custodians, crossing guards, paraprofessionals, cafeteria staff, bus drivers) in the roll out plan and also discussed some obstacles we may face, such as:

  • How do we ensure everyone receives training?

  • What is the plan for staff and students who join after the roll out?

  • How do we administer training for substitutes?

The answer is to have a plan for boosters throughout the school year and have training materials ready for people joining later in the school year. Designate a team member or two who can help our newbies get up to speed and acclimated to your PBIS system at any point in time.

Roll Out Party

So, how do we create a kick butt roll out? We get creative!!

  • School assemblies

  • school songs

  • movies

  • interviews

There are so many ways to get everyone excited. Invite parents and community members and encourage as much involvement beyond the school as you can. By encouraging parents and community members’ involvement to reinforce expectations, we can continue to shape our students’ positive behaviors in all aspects of their lives.

Then keep the party going! Picnics, game days, music and dance at recess, or dress code days are all free or low cost celebrations. Invite local police and firefighters to join the fun.
